Mission & Vision

Our Mission: To worship, witness, follow and serve Jesus Christ as Lord.

Our Vision: Christ in us; God's glory manifested!

What we believe

Concord Church is grounded in scripture, molded by God, seeking to serve our community by showing Christian love and compassion for the physical and spiritual well-being of all. This is our vision which our mission supports. This is our expected outcome as we grow, embrace and serve.

GROWING! A key value is growing in our relationship with God. Whether we have been believers for many decades or just a few days, we all have room to grow. We prayerfully design opportunities to help you grow in your relationship with God and we want you to take full advantage of the opportunities that call to you. We are also open to your ideas and ways you may help others grow as you grow. Our expectation is that you grow towards God and with other believers here at Concord Church. We also expect to grow as a community of faith. You are encouraged to invite others to join our growing fellowship of believers.

EMBRACING! We embrace each other and we embrace God. Relationships are key at Concord Church. We look to form meaningful relationships with each other and with God. Our aim is to ensure the welcoming embrace does not end because God always welcomes us. We hope you will look for people to embrace here at Concord and in our community too.

SERVING! Service is a key expectation of all our members. God has given you specific gifts and abilities, some of which no one else has. We want you to use those gifts in Jesus’ name. Perhaps it is a ministry or mission project that is already in existence...or perhaps it is a new endeavor you will help us create. In all cases, our relationship with Jesus compels us to take action. We are all active servants of God engaged in meaningful work in the church and in the community, all in Jesus’ name.

What to expect

Concord offers two worship services every Sunday. Both services have Communion on the first Sunday of every Month. Our nursery is available during both worship times as well as during Sunday School classes 9:55AM - 10:45AM.

  • 11:00AM Traditional Worship

    • Bring your family, friends and neighbors to enjoy the familiar embrace of worship in the Sanctuary. Enjoy special songs from the choir. Come early to fellowship with friends at coffee time or join a Sunday School class.

Our history

Stay tuned... under construction.

Pastor Tom Newman

I was born and raised in rural Alamance County, North Carolina. We didn’t farm, per se, but we did survive on hand-sewn clothes and whatever we could produce from an acre or two of land. My family wasn’t religious and we didn’t attend church. But when I was 12 my grandmother convinced my parents to take my younger sister to Vacation Bible school - I was just along for the ride. Or so I thought. Ever since that first VBS, I have been hungry to be in church. I felt a call into ministry while a teenager and consider myself the most blessed person I know because today, I get to come to church every day!

I am an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and was first appointed full time in 1995 (La Grange UMC). From then I’ve served Angier UMC (1999-2006), Salem UMC in Greenville, NC (2006-2011), Sunrise UMC in Holly Springs, NC (2011-2017), and Asbury Church in Raleigh, NC.

My undergraduate degree is in Philosophy from Elon University (BA in 1992) and my graduate degree is from Duke University (M-Div in 1995). While at Duke I served for 18-months as a Shelter/Building Manager for Allied Churches of Alamance County (a 13,000 square foot ministry facility that housed an adult day care, Christian assistance network, soup kitchen, homeless shelter and much more).

I have served on a number of boards and agencies in the NC Annual Conference. I received life coach training through Passion in Partnership where I was one of the founding members as well as in the first cohort of trained coaches. I was blessed to be part of the team that re-imagined the Residency in Ordained Ministry (RIOM) process and designed the mock interview portion.

Next to the Lord, I love old cars - especially Cadillacs, pick-up trucks and motorcycles. Daytona Bike Week is an annual event I have attended since 2004. I’ve owned several classic Cadillacs and many motorcycles, mostly Kawasaki. I have had a Can Am Spyder (lots of fun!) and fancy my next bike to be an Indian. I love the beach and cruise vacations, especially to warm, Caribbean islands in the winter. I love to travel and have led several trips to Israel, one to Jordan and Egypt, and would love to retrace the steps of Paul.

I am blessed to be the father of two boys and husband to my wife Jeana Walton. Jeana, who is a Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant, hasn’t earned the famed pink Cadillac yet but when she does, she promises to let me drive it, but only on special occasions!

I am delighted to serve as the pastor of Concord Church (2020) which has a 200+ year history of being an outpost of heaven and the epicenter of dynamic ministry. Our ministry focuses on Growing spiritually and numerically, Embracing each other and God, and Serving Jesus Christ in tangible ways in our community and abroad. I am eager to grow in my relationship with God and consider myself first and foremost a Christ-follower! I love Jesus and am anxious to help you grow closer to God and fall more deeply in love with Jesus too.

I’d love to connect with you personally, to hear your story or answer any questions you may have about my life journey. If you don't see my car or truck at the church or are unable to stop by, drop me a line at my Concord address (pastor@concordchurchrox.org).

I look forward to hearing from you.
